British Airways increases London City services to Germany

British Airways is to add 34,000 extra seats on its routes from London City airport to Hamburg and Dusseldorf this winter. The carrier will increase the frequency of its LCY-Dusseldorf service from three to four times-daily From October 30

Malaysia Airlines launches promotions on London-Kuala Lumpur route

Malaysia Airlines is running two promotions on its London-Kuala Lumpur route, one for all customers and one for Enrich loyalty programme members. The first promotion offers flights from RM2,499 all-in return from Kuala Lumpur to London and £399 all-in return from London to Kuala Lumpur, both in economy class in celebration of the carrier’s new partnership with Liverpool Football Club. The second promotion discounts Enrich miles redemption on London-Kuala Lumpur services. Loyalty members get 70% off the miles cost of first class tickets, 55% off business class tickets and 30% off economy tickets.

Gatwick welcomes new agreement to double flights with China

Gatwick Airport has welcomed the new agreement between the UK and Chinese governments to more than double the number of permitted flights between China and the UK. Under the new deal passenger flights can now increase from the current maximum of 40 per week for each nation to up to 100, helping to boost tourism and trade opportunities for the UK.

Enterprise Car Club expands in Birmingham

Enterprise Car Club has expanded its number of vehicles in Birmingham from six to 15, with locations throughout the city. The car rental company offers 950 self-service vehicles in 19 cities across Great Britain, and was known as City Car Club before Enterprise Holdings purchased it in 2015.

Malaysia Airlines announces partnership with Liverpool FC

Malaysia Airlines has become the official global airline partner of Liverpool Football Club, a deal which includes advertising exposure for the carrier at Liverpool home games at Anfield Stadium and on the club’s website and social media. Malaysia will also get LFC merchandising rights and the ability to use the club’s players to represent the airline as ambassadors.

Virgin Atlantic's Clubhouse is having a facelift

It’s been ten years since the Virgin Atlantic Clubhouse at Heathrow first opened. To keep it looking its best and make it an even more special place to be, it is having a bit of work done. Once the updates are complete, Virgin Atlantic guest will be able to enjoy eating in a bigger Brasserie, unwinding in a new, secluded cinema area and having a better choice of places to relax or work.

London City Airport introduces full-body scanners

London City Airport has completed the first UK trial of the Quick Personnel Security scanner R&S QPS200 from Rohde & Schwarz. The scanners are now ready to screen passengers. The body scanners differ from existing scanners as passengers stand with their arms slightly away from their body while the equipment completes a full body scan.

Four Seasons Hotel London at Ten Trinity Square

Four Seasons Hotel London at Ten Trinity Square will accept reservations from mid-February. Reviving the former Port of London Authority, history and significance are palpable: the Beaux Arts-style building and the UN Ballroom, where in 1946 the General Assembly of the United Nations held its inaugural reception, already bring an inevitable sense of grandeur to the hotel.

Qatar Airways launches Helsinki route

Qatar Airways has launched a new daily service between Doha and Helsinki. The new route completes the carrier’s “network strategy of serving Nordic capitals”, with Qatar already operating flights to Stockholm, Oslo and Copenhagen. Flights will be served with A320 aircraft (although the inaugural service was operated by an A350), configured with 12 business class seats and 120 in economy.

Travel Convention 2016: Azores to host next year's Travel Convention

Abta has announced its next Travel Convention will be held in the Azores. The event will take place from October 9 to 11 at the Teatro Micalense in the old town of Ponta Delgada in Sao Miguel.

Scottish government backs Heathrow expansion

The Scottish government has thrown its weight behind plans for a third runway at Heathrow Airport. The project now has the backing of Holyrood with the Scottish government set to sign a Memorandum of Understanding with Heathrow Airport later. Keith Brown, cabinet secretary for economy, jobs and fair work, told BBC Radio Scotland that it was the "best deal for Scotland".

Monarch Receives Late Investment to Keep Airline Flying

British air carrier Monarch Airlines announced that it had received its biggest investment to date from majority shareholder Greybull Capital worth $205 million to renew a key operating license and pay for new planes.
